20 Jobs, A Memoir - My New Book

Greetings to all my friends on Facebook and in the blogger world.  I mentioned in my last post that didn't keep up on my Blog because I was busy with another project.  Now I am ready to reveal the project - I wrote a memoir!  It didn't happen overnight, it actually took almost four years.  I've been writing it since I retired.  It is now available on Amazon and I will be sending that link to all my Facebook friends today.

As a new author, I have mixed emotions about sending my book,(Title is the Link to the Book on Amazon) 20 Jobs: A Memoir  out into the world.  Just like in quilting, when you enter a quilt in a show, you are putting your work out to be valued or judged and there is a certain anxiety about that.

When you read the book, and I hope you will, you will find out why I chose to write my life story using my jobs  as a main focus throughout my life.  The introduction, "Beginnings," should explain my thoughts behind that.  Then each chapter focuses on one job at a time starting when I was a teen.

Whenever I tell anyone the name of my book, they ask if I really had 20 paying jobs.  The answer is "Unfortunately,  yes."  Then they start counting how many jobs they've had or begin telling me about their first job they ever had.  This pleases me because it shows that my book opens up a conversation that leads to sharing stories.  When I think about it, that was my main reason for writing this book.  I wanted to tell my stories.  Along with that I hope that it encourages others to tell their stories.

I will continue blogging about quilting and hope that now I will now have more time to post quilt news. Still, I do plan to keep writing.

Thank you for all your continued support of my blog and I hope you will read and enjoy my first book.

“The next thing most like living one’s life over again seems to be a recollection of that life, and to make that recollection as durable as possible by putting it down in writing"

Looking Back at 2016 Sew Deja Vu Retreat

Sorry, I have been a slacker blogger lately!  I do have an excuse, which I will soon reveal.

But now, on a cold January day, I am looking back at the Sew Deja Vu Retreat that was held at the Bertram Inn in Aurora on a sunny October day.   Judy, the shop owner of Sew Deja Vu in Stow was our queen for a day.  Those luggage racks have a multitude of uses.
Judy always adds a touch of excitement and fun to her retreats.  We had sew much fun.  Judy also showed off a lovely quilt that she made for her daughter.  See Below -

Jen brought her T-Quilt to show and then finished a new quilt that she designed.  I'm so in awe of her creativity!
T-Quilt
Quilt designed by Jen.  Awesome!
There were so many other breathtaking projects in progress and I will share some of them now.
Sister Charlotte added bright red colors and her dash of humor.  It's always a blessing to be at a retreat with Sister Charlotte!  Yes, those are real scissors hanging from her ears.

Creativity is never neat!

Thank you for putting up with my recent lack of communication.  I will try to do better in the new year.  Meanwhile I can't leave without a quote.

"For a true writer, each book should be a new beginning where he tries again for something that is beyond attainment. He should always try for something that has never been done or that others have tried and failed. Then sometimes, with great luck, he will succeed."

2016 Streetsboro Quilt Show

Streetsboro Quilt Guild presented its' 31st quilt show on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.  About 150 quilts were on display and ten vendors were present to make sure that the visitors had plenty of places to browse for new ideas and material.  The proceeds from the show are used to support the food pantries in Streetsboro.

Four young quilters had entries in the show and they were each given a bag with material to use and start a quilt for next years show.  They were very excited!

Happiness is a bag of new material!

Below is a sampling of some of the quilts in the show:

The creativity in the quilting world is so inspiring.  Hope you enjoyed the show.

Beckwith's Apple Orchard - Our Family Tradition

We have watched her grow by the apple tree!
2016 Look How You Have Grown!

Late summer or fall could not be complete without a trip to Beckwith Orchards in Kent.  On the spur of the moment, My son, Adam, my granddaughter, Zoe and I decided to go for a slice of apple pie and ended up walking through Hal's Dahlia Patch.  His diverse assortment of dahlias is a sight to behold.  We had the pleasure of talking to Hal and found out that each dahlia has a name, like roses.  He puts the name tag into the bag of tubers when he digs them up each fall.  the next spring the flowers are replanted and the name is tucked in at the bottom of each plant.  He said that the colors remind him of girls' prom dresses.  We agreed!  How fortunate that he shares his garden with all the visitors at the apple farm.
Hal presented Zoe with a special dahlia.  She loved it!

I think the name of this one is "Exuberant"

"Go, and sit upon the lofty hill
And turn your eyes around,
Where waving woods and waters wild
Do hymn an autumn sound."

~ excerpt from "The Autumn" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1833)

"The summer sun is faint on them —
The summer flowers depart —
Sit still — as all transform’d to stone,
Except your musing heart."

~ excerpt from "The Autumn" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1833)
