2015 Spring Retreat at Mrs. Miller's Cabin

Spring! 2015

This was my first quilt retreat during May at Mrs. Miller's Cabin in Charm, Ohio.  The cabin is always lovely and welcoming, but even more so this time of year with so much green.  Below is the cabin in November.  What a difference in color!

Fall 2014

Looking at the two pictures, I like the cabin in May better!  But no matter what the season, staying in that rustic, charming cabin with other quilters and sharing laughter, food and quilting ideas is the best part of the Mrs. Miller's Cabin retreat!

Michelle was trying out a new pattern featured on the Missouri Star tutorials:  CLICK HERE for the tutorial.  She did a fabulous job and almost finished two complete quilt tops.  Way to go, Michelle!

Stack and Whack Baby Quilt and Block

Barb B has a new grandbaby on the way, so she made a stack and whack baby quilt.  So cute!!

Adventures with Enders & Leaders

Carol completed a quilt top using the "Hopscotch, Butterscotch" pattern that can be found in Bonnie Hunter's book Adventures with Enders & Leaders.  CLICK HERE FOR A LINK TO THAT BOOK.

Carol stitched miles of scrappy squares together and completed this fabulous quilt at our retreat.  Lots of memories are included in the scraps of this special quilt top.  It's beautiful!    

The weekend went by too fast!  At the end of the retreat we packed up our sewing gear and said good-bye to the cabin.  We are tired, but refreshed and ready to go back to our everyday lives.

Mrs. Miller's Cabin Retreat

Oh my gosh!  How did 20 days go by without a new post?  It must be true that you are even more busy when you retire than when you are working.

This past weekend was very special.  I had the privilege of spending the weekend in Charm, Ohio down in Amish country at Mrs. Miller's Cabin.   We quilted till the wee hours, laughed and ate lots of good food.

Can I hear you singing "Over the River and Through the Woods"?

If not, we will move on to our quilt projects.  Barb, Mama Barb's daughter, completed a very special project.   She found an old box of quilt squares, sewed by hand, up in the corner of an attic in a house that was going to be torn down.  She rescued the old squares and sewed them into this wonderful quilt.  We all agreed that whoever made these hand-sewn squares, maybe her husband's grandmother, would be thrilled to see the final results.  Take a look:

I made a flannel snowman/cabin quilt from a kit.  When I cuddle up under it this winter, I will remember our happy weekend at the cabin in Charm. 

The Cabin is a great place for a quilt retreat, or any kind of retreat.

Time flew by and all too soon it was time to head for home and back to reality.  First we had to finish eating some of these cute cookies.  

With Thanksgiving one week away, I am thankful for my QBee friends and our time together at Mrs. Miller's Cabin.  I am sew blessed!

Winter Retreat at the Cabin

We had a fantastic winter retreat at Mrs. Miller's Cabin in Charm, Ohio this past weekend.  The weather was perfect and the sewing machines were buzzing.  We ate wonderful meals, shopped at Mrs. Miller's Dry Goods, caught up on family news and enjoyed the best weekend you can imagine.  

It took a weekend at The Cabin to finally finish Easy Street borders.  I needed a big floor space to lay it out and measure.  It's my largest quilt ever, as you can tell by the picture.  The quilt holders were standing on chairs and I have to thank them for risking life and limb to get this shot.  We found the perfect backing at the quilt shop and Miss Carol is going to quilt it for me.  I know it is in good hands!
