When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d

When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d

BY WALT WHITMAN
When lilacs last in the dooryard bloom’d,
And the great star early droop’d in the western sky in the night,
I mourn’d, and yet shall mourn with ever-returning spring.

Ever-returning spring, trinity sure to me you bring,
Lilac blooming perennial and drooping star in the west,
And thought of him I love.

The lilacs in the back yard are exceptionally pretty this year - maybe the best ever.  You cannot help but get a little dreamy, think of poetry and "Ever-returning spring,"

While the lilacs are showing off their finery, over by the garage, almost hidden are the shy, tiny Lily-of-the-Valley flowers.

Now apply that lilac theme to quilting and you have this: Michelle's Kaleidoscope square

"Lilac and star and bird twined with the chant of my soul,"
Happy Spring to all my fellow Bloggers!

    1. Oh, yes, they smell very fragrant and lovely and can also be deep purple and white in color. They are one of my favourite spring flowers. Tonight it is going down in the 30's here in Ohio with a chance of frost, so I cut some lilacs to bring in and enjoy for a couple more days.
